I think I owe a little explanation to everyone. I know my page has been overtaken by Blythe. Indy & the Ninja is still here! The hair accessories are not over, they are just taking a back seat for awhile because I have been pretty much overwhelmed by demand for my Blythe custom work.

Blythe has truly been a whirlwind I did not expect when I purchased my first doll in 2010. It’s been crazy and exciting and best of all, creative! And hey, what girl doesn’t like playing with dolls?

Despite taking a lot of March off, I’ve done 20 customs this year! Sometimes even I am amazed. I’m so happy that people out there love my Blythes! And I have the best family that supports me in this cat-lady-crazy obsession of mine!

Commission prices will increase from July 2012.

I know a lot of customisers are feeling that commissions are less worthwhile than finished dolls for sale due to the price difference. Finished dolls are often fetching many times the price of a commission. So, many commission lists out there have not progressed or reopened because of this.

So the price rise is taking into account what is fair for me as well as being able to continue with commissions, not just focus on finished customs for sale. And it still adds up to less than what a finished custom sells for.

I apologise if you’ve been waiting on the list only to find prices have gone up. I have been working through the names as fast as I can, but for me to continue having a list at all, the reality is that I need to be earning more for my time or return to other work (and possibly cancel the list).

I have started my Blythe customs for 2012 and even that seems unusually hard for me. This is one of Mandy’s 4 girls.

So maybe one of this year’s goals really should be “try harder” … We shall see.

It’s strange where life takes us …

If you had told me just 18 months ago, that I would be going from making up models to making up dolls, I might have laughed at you.

For many years, I wondered why I studied makeup when I had no intention of going into makeup full-time over graphic design. I loved the subject, but I didn’t love the industry. When I went to IMATS a few years ago and Rae Morris told a room full of teenage hopefuls to lie their way into jobs, in many ways I found that was the last straw.

Comparitively, I have found the Blythe community to be generally welcoming and supportive. And I love my little subjects so much. Blythe has been such a big part in my journey of recovering from post-natal depression.

This time 12 months ago, my first Blythe had not even arrived yet. And now I’ve done 26 customs. Yep, life is funny.
