Happy Happy Birthday!

Indy & the Ninja is turning 2!!! It’s hard to believe but it’s almost 2 years since I started this little venture. I opened my Etsy store on Novemeber 9, 2009 – although it took just about a month for a real sale (ie to someone I didn’t know at all). It’s definitely been a fun ride, although not without it’s tough times. Look out for a special promotion at Kawaii Kids soon to celebrate this milestone!

Also this weekend, my little ninja turns 1! Now that year has gone fast! He is such a happy, bubbly boy and I am so thankful he is part of our lives now.

I guess it might be a little early to start reminiscing about the year that’s gone by since it’s not quite the end of 2011 yet! So perhaps I’ll leave the rest of my ramblings for a bit later.

Ouch!

I’m a bit behind schedule … or would be if I had actually set myself one. And if I had been the type of person that generally makes New Year’s resolutions, that probably should have been one of them. Most people think I am very organised. I can be very organised, but most of the time, it’s not so much as planning ahead as it is a control-freakish-panic-attack episode. So I’m generally not a last-minute person because I have my panic attacks well before deadline. And stuff does get done.

The New Year’s break has been eventful in nice and not-so-nice ways. Indy’s grown so much – become so much more talkative (if only I knew what she was saying) – and so much more difficult (why won’t you sleep!?!). She thinks the Harajuku Girls perfumes I got for Christmas are cats!

Indy thinks these are cats!

Harry’s become a mini Ninja Daddy but a lot more serious. Who knew a little baby could vomit so much that he’d go through all my nursing tops before I was out the front door?

Ninja Daddy & Harry

I got a bucketload of Blythe clothes, thanks to my folks who went to Hong Kong …

This used to be a makeup traincase but now it's filled with my Blythe wardrobe

In honour of hubby's current fave movie, I am renaming my Blythe with ever-changing hair to Ramona.

… cut 32 cm off my hair (it was falling out or I wouldn’t have) …

… and mastitis (see, that’s the bad bit). And wow it’s pretty painful. Would probably been less so if I had connected the dots sooner and realised my cough/runny nose and my rock-hard boob was related.

So now it’s 2011 … and I’m already behind (got a bit side-tracked by my own rambling). I have cut – none – of the fabric I set aside to cut but I’m pretty close to finalising the new blossom sets and rosette headbands. Here’s a sneak peak, thanks to Mel Chun Tie Photography. Lots more to come!

Harry’s first fortnight & Apologies

Harrison

I don’t remember Indy’s week one very well. Yes, it was 18-months ago, but it all seems a blur and looking back – I don’t really recall a lot about those first 12 weeks apart from the sleep deprivation, frustration and even anger. But things seemed to finally click at 12 weeks and although I still struggle at times, it did seem to ‘work’ from that point onwards.

Harry’s week one I am finding very different. It made a huge difference to those first few days just having sleep before the birth. With Indy, no amount of Panadeine Forte or Pethidine made me sleep any more than 2 hours … and that was after 2 days of almost no sleep. So no labour is something that I definitely didn’t miss this time around (although placenta previa is scary enough in it’s own right). And just letting go enough to let Harry sleep in the nursery instead of my bedside … that was a HUGE relief.  I didn’t even fuss about trying to make it to classes. Just rested and sewed and watched America’s Next Top Model. I was still weepy, but no where near the state I was last time where the nurses actually referred me to a counseller, and I probably did need it then. I do want to thank Sally from Cradle 2 Kindy though, for coming to my home and helping me settle in with the new bub.

But things weren’t all rosy …

On Saturday night, Indy had developed gastro. By Monday night, 10-day old Harrison stopped feeding. We took him to emergency and were admitted that night. Both Kevin and I had gotten Indy’s bug too so we were very worried for Harry. If I was well, I probably couldn’t have watched them do all those tests to such a tiny baby and many of the later tests I did decline to watch.

Two days and many, many tests later, it’s confirmed to be a urinary tract infection … totally unrelated to the gastro the rest of us got.

On the upside, the antibiotics he’s been given in the meanwhile have worked and he’s markedly better already. There are further tests to be done, but they’ll be when he’s well. So … if all goes well with the switch from IV to oral antibiotics, we should be heading home in a day!

I do have to apologise to all who have placed orders this week as they will be delayed. They will ship early next week with a free greeting card. Domestic orders will be upgraded to express post.
