Tribbles

Yet another Blythe post? Kind of …

I finally sent my new hair flower range catalogue to the printers today! It’s taken me a while, I know … I set aside all of yesterday to do the deep-etching, so I’m happy that it’s done. On the other hand, I am sooo rusty at working on the computer now.

I’ve also etched all the new photos for the rosette headbands and blossom sets, but have to wait until a jewellery bust arrives before Kevin can shoot the new pendants. These are some of the new things I’ll have in the store soon:

Now back to the tribbles … Ninja Daddy thinks that my Blythe dolls are like Tribbles (they keep multiplying). Here’s my newest addition, Cassidy, whom I have customised myself.  She has been sand-matted, nose buttoned slightly, carved nostrils, lips and philtrum, new makeup and new lashes. The lashes in particular gave me grief! It must have taken 4-5 pairs before I got to an acceptable result, although not perfect. But she is my first attempt at customising Blythe and I’m quite happy with how she’s turned out (for comparison, Violet in the picture below has not been customised).

My Tribble Family (L-R): Juno (custom basaak), Willow (custom PD2A), Violet (VL) & Cassidy (custom factory)

And I have a new Blythe on the way! Rasberry Sorbet! She’s being released tomorrow and then will wing her way here! So yes, tribbles they are :)

Ouch!

I’m a bit behind schedule … or would be if I had actually set myself one. And if I had been the type of person that generally makes New Year’s resolutions, that probably should have been one of them. Most people think I am very organised. I can be very organised, but most of the time, it’s not so much as planning ahead as it is a control-freakish-panic-attack episode. So I’m generally not a last-minute person because I have my panic attacks well before deadline. And stuff does get done.

The New Year’s break has been eventful in nice and not-so-nice ways. Indy’s grown so much – become so much more talkative (if only I knew what she was saying) – and so much more difficult (why won’t you sleep!?!). She thinks the Harajuku Girls perfumes I got for Christmas are cats!

Indy thinks these are cats!

Harry’s become a mini Ninja Daddy but a lot more serious. Who knew a little baby could vomit so much that he’d go through all my nursing tops before I was out the front door?

Ninja Daddy & Harry

I got a bucketload of Blythe clothes, thanks to my folks who went to Hong Kong …

This used to be a makeup traincase but now it's filled with my Blythe wardrobe

In honour of hubby's current fave movie, I am renaming my Blythe with ever-changing hair to Ramona.

… cut 32 cm off my hair (it was falling out or I wouldn’t have) …

… and mastitis (see, that’s the bad bit). And wow it’s pretty painful. Would probably been less so if I had connected the dots sooner and realised my cough/runny nose and my rock-hard boob was related.

So now it’s 2011 … and I’m already behind (got a bit side-tracked by my own rambling). I have cut – none – of the fabric I set aside to cut but I’m pretty close to finalising the new blossom sets and rosette headbands. Here’s a sneak peak, thanks to Mel Chun Tie Photography. Lots more to come!

Happy Birthday! Indy & the Ninja is turning 1!

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

It’s gone so fast! But then, I look at Indy and say the same. Technically, our anniversary isn’t until the 1st day I opened my Etsy shop, which is Nov 9 – but seeing as I might have this baby anyday, I thought it wouldn’t hurt to celebrate a little early.

You can read about how it all started here.

And watch out for a special promotion at Kawaii Kids soon!

New things

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

New greeting card designs are finally here. Unfortunately, the supplier shipped me the wrong envelopes, so I only have a limited number of these for sale at the moment.

Aimi from the “Lucky Fish” card and Molly from the “You’re Sweet” card will also make their debut on hair flowers soon!

I am still recovering from my stint in hospital and this nasty flu from Indy, but hopefully will be better before bubs arrives. It is getting to that hard, tiring stage though – so no doubt my blogging will be even more random and scarce than it is now. But for your entertainment in the meanwhile, here is me 32 weeks pregnant in this video experiment that DH made.

Sneak Peak!

Monday, August 30th, 2010

I’m having some renovation done at home, which fingers crossed, will be completed before the new bubs arrives, so I haven’t had as much time to work on Indy & the Ninja as I would have liked. It’s a bit hard to work with all the drilling going on, and the dust has been wreaking havoc with my allergic bronchitus. I am glad to be finally caught up on orders and will finally have some time to work on the things I have in development. I have loads of projects I want to complete before bubs arrives, but reality states that I can only do as much as my very fatigued self will allow. Oh well.

One of my new projects are these super cute bunny cards. A stack of these are winging it’s way to one of our favourite stockists right now! I am working on a bunch of other designs, but don’t worry, hair accessories will still be my focus – these card designs are really just to keep the creative juices flowing.

Not quite Devon

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

A couple of weeks ago, I posted this illustration, inspired by Devon Aoki:

Devon

I finally got my fabric samples (I assume the rest is on it’s way …), and have made this one up into a flower:

But have to say I’m not 100% happy with it. The design needs more fringe (aka bangs), otherwise the forehead stretches too much when it’s pressed into the button shape. This combo is one-off as I don’t have anymore of this newsprint fabric (wish I did!). So I guess it’s back to the drawing board for a Miss Devon hair flower. She does fare much better as a pin-backed button though.

"French Girls" pin-backed button set

I call this set “French Girls” – (clockwise from top left) Ava, Devon, Brigitte and Chloe.

Indy & the Ninja was also featured in this week’s Baby’s Got Style newsletter!

Remember that creative journey thing?

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

For those of you that might remember way back when, I blogged about the sense of achievement when something is completed and showed the transformation of a butterfly from digital illustration to finished hair flower. I also posted this image:

Well here it is on the finished hair flower:

In other news, I’d love to welcome Little Styles into the Indy & the Ninja stockist family!

And we were also in the most recent Kawaii Kids newsletter!
